Overview
In 2013, Actiwork was contracted by Glencore to design and deliver a comprehensive turn-key fit-out at the Glendell mine site in the Hunter Valley, NSW. The primary goal of this project was to deliver a fully functional workshop ready for efficient and safe machine maintenance. Through strong collaboration and a deep understanding of the mining industry’s unique challenges, Actiwork successfully delivered a heavy-duty mine-spec solution that met Glencore’s specific needs.
Project Objectives

Scope of Work
Actiwork undertook a comprehensive scope of work, which included the following components:
1. Manufacturing of Galvanised Bathhouse Lockers
Actiwork manufactured durable galvanised bathhouse lockers to provide secure personal clothing storage for mine workers. These lockers were designed to withstand the harsh mining environment, ensuring longevity and reliable performance.
2. Miscellaneous and Specialist Tooling Storage
To enhance operational efficiency, Actiwork designed and manufactured:
- Shift Lockers: These lockers were tailored for storing personal items securely during shifts, improving worker organisation and reducing clutter in work areas.
- Shadow Boards: These boards provided a visual management system for tools, allowing easy access and visibility of equipment.
- Mesh Tool Stores: The introduction of mesh tool stores improved tool security, reducing the risk of loss or theft, and ensured quick access to tools needed for maintenance.
3. Provision of Safety Signage and Safety Products
Actiwork recognized the importance of safety in mining operations. As part of the project, they provided safety signage and various safety-focused products, contributing to a safer working environment and promoting best practices among the workforce.
4. Custom Access Systems
Actiwork designed and manufactured custom access systems tailored for heavy machinery, including:
- Front Engine and Radiator Access: Ensuring safe access for maintenance and operation.
- Ancillary Equipment: Facilitating easy access and compliance with safety standards.
- Track Engine Bay Access: With front light access and rear access.
5. Critical Parts and Consumables Store Setup
A full critical parts and consumables store was established using Actiworks premium drawer units. Key features of this setup included:
- The ability to add modular units to allow for future growth.
- The flexibility to add adjustable shelves with dividers to allow for organisation.
- The added protection of dust flaps to ensure longevity.
- 200kg Rating: Each drawer unit was designed to withstand heavy loads, making them ideal for storing critical mining components.
- Lifetime Warranty: The warranty provided assurance of the quality and longevity of the storage system, aligning with Glencore’s operational requirements for coal extraction.
Outcomes and Impact
The turn-key fit-out delivered by Actiwork significantly improved the operational efficiency and safety of Glencore’s maintenance activities at Glendell. Key outcomes included:
